This page started as an attempt to try to get you to buy these books so I could make a small commission on them. But now I don't really care about that. I mean, I still want to make money, but I really just want people to read some God damned books that will throw some water on the fire that is their insufferable ignorance. So read these. I don't care if you buy them from here or steal them from the little old lady in the library. Just stop being an dumbass.
Thomas Sowell -- This man will change the way you think about politics, economics, law, public policy, statistics, experts, you name it. His books are an absolute must read if you have any convictions in any of those areas. Particularly A Conflict of Visions,
Economic Facts and Fallacies
, and Intellectuals and Society
. Here is an example of his genius at work... Statistics that show Asians and Jews have a higher net worth than Blacks and Hispanics. Common conclusions point to racial discrimination as the cause. But those conclusions are flawed because the statistics are incomplete. For instance, age trends are ignored. The average age of Asians and Jews in America is between 40 and 50. The average age of Blacks and Latinos in America is between 20 and 30. Older people, aged 40-50, have been in the work force longer, have more work experience, and have had more opportunity to advance. Naturally they are earning larger salaries and have more money saved than a 20-30 year old who is relatively new in the work force, has had less opportunity for advancement, has less work experience, and has had less time to save money. Taken from Knowledge And Decisions
.
Neil Strauss -- The human animal has two primary insticts: to survive and replicate. Emergency covers survival, and The Game
covers replication. While both books are great, I can't recommend The Game
enough. It will forever change the way you view dating, relationships, and women in general. Another one that it supposed to be good is How to Make Love Like a Porn Star
.
Malcolm Gladwell -- Simply put, his work will change the way you look at and understand the world. Outliers: The Story of Success is a mind-blowing book about how successful people got where they are today. If you think you know, you have no idea. The Tipping Point
is another eye-opener, quasi-success related, but more on a macro level. If you think you understand trends, this book will shed a new light on your thinking. And finally, Blink
is OK, but How We Decide
by Jonah Lehrer is much more insightful when it comes to your mind. These books are best-sellers for a reason. Do yourself a favor.
Sperm Wars -- If this book doesn't change your mind completely, it will certainly challenge many of the assumptions you've been conditioned to hold about sex, relationships, evolution, and human biology. And for the ladies: I know two girls who had to stop this book mid-read to go masturbate. That is not a typo.
The Truth About Money 3rd Edition -- I'm tired of idiots who can't make ends meet, yet keep doing the same stupid shit day after day, month after month, year after year. Stop being a mindless asshole and learn how to stop being a broke, clueless drain on society.
Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People -- Hands down one of the most entertaining books ever written. This autobiography chronicles the stories of one of the greatest gamblers who ever lived. If you don't learn how to fleece an idiot reading this, then the saying that
there's a sucker born every minute
applies to you. Read this book.
The Alphabet Of Manliness -- I can't make a list of recommended books without mentioning the comic genius who inspired me to write in the first place. This is hands down the funniest book you'll read in your life, along with I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell
by Tucker Max and Men Are Better Than Women
by Dick Masterson. If you don't get it, you don't get it. If you're female, don't even bother looking at these. If you're a guy, ask the gods of testosterone forgiveness for your ignorance up to this point. You can thank me later.
